CPIA DESIGNATION: A SALES & MARKETING SERIES FOR EVERY INSURANCE PROFESSIONAL
The Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) Designation is the first-of-its kind, hands-on, how-to training on sales and marketing topics and techniques. It is nationally recognized as the mark of professionalism, commitment to professional training and results, and exceptional technical knowledge.
To earn the CPIA designation, candidates are required to participate in a series of three, one-day seminars. Seminars are designed to enhance the ability of producers, sales support staff, and company personnel to efficiently create and distribute effective insurance programs. Participants leave with actionable ideas that can produce results immediately.
Three Days. One Designation. No Exam
Position for Success (CPIA 1)
During this program, participants are encouraged to focus on internal and external factors affecting effective business development plans. Factors discussed include:
- A review of the state of the insurance marketplace
- Analysis of competitive pressures
- Necessary insurance carrier underwriting criteria
- Consumer expectations and understanding
Implement for Success (CPIA 2)
During this session, participants will:
- Gain specific tools for analyzing consumer needs
- Learn to utilize risk identification techniques to gather pertinent prospect information
- Develop skills necessary to assimilate information gathered into a customized protection program
- Participate in exercises designed to promote effective delivery of proven solutions
Sustain Success (CPIA 3)
This program focuses on fulfilling the implied promises contained in the insuring agreement. Students will:
- Review methods of providing evidence of insurance coverage
- Discuss policies and procedures for controlling errors and omissions including policy review and delivery, endorsements, claims-processing, and handling of client complaints
- Review professional expectations
- Review the Law of Agency
- Review legal and ethical standards
- Throughout each section of the workshop material, tips for preventing Errors & Omissions are highlighted and discussed
Who Should Attend?
Insurance Success Seminars are open to any employee of an agency, insurance company, or insurance-related business who wants to enhance or learn sales techniques. These courses are developed specifically for insurance professionals. You’ll meet, network, and engage with people just like you in the insurance field.

Maintaining the CPIA Designation
The CPIA designation requires an annual update. This update requirement can be satisfied through participation in any one of the three core CPIA Seminars, participation in any one of the specialized topics CPIA Seminars, or by maintenance of an individual or agency membership in the CPIA Program.
CPIA Special Topic Seminars
These full-day courses are open to anyone to attend and are approved as a CPIA Designation annual update. Choose from three topics that are pertinent to today’s environment.
Disaster & Continuity Planning for Businesses & Families
During this program, participants are encouraged to focus on factors affecting disaster and business continuity planning. Areas discussed include types of disasters, key planning elements, disaster team makeup, insurance considerations, and funding challenges.
Participants will use case studies and exercises to practice concepts and techniques covered in the course. Concepts from Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans are tied to Personal Lines as Lifestyle Continuity and Family Disaster Plans.

An Agent's Guide to Understanding & Mitigating Cyber Exposures
During this program, participants are encouraged to focus on the exposures, insurance recommendations for coverage and risk management techniques used to identify, analyze, and control them. Having proper insurance along with implementing proper control and company policies can keep an organization from financial ruin. Cyber insurance is evolving, and the policy forms differ in many ways. Understanding cyber risks, both property (first-party) and liability (third-party), and providing the proper insurance protection is critical for all organizations.
An E&O Loss Control Program for All Agencies
Steps to Help Minimize Errors and Omissions Exposure in an Agency – Upon completion of this class, managers and supervisors will have the tools to take steps to initiate their own internal E&O loss control program in their agency and/or department. Non-management employees will feel empowered to approach management with a plan for creating a loss control program.
