IA&B Launches Projects to Recruit, Develop Diverse New Talent
MECHANCISBURG, PA – A new recruitment initiative and complementary development program are underway to bring diverse new talent into independent insurance agencies. Insurance Agents & Brokers (IA&B) – which represents over 1,000 independent agencies in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware – launched the Insuring Careers Certification Program (ICCP) in January.
“The Insuring Careers Certification Program is a game-changer,” said IA&B President & CEO Jason Ernest, Esq. “It culminates nearly two years of work and supports our strategic initiative of talent recruitment and development.”
The ICCP is an online, flexible program for industry newcomers. It provides education on insurance basics, preparation for the state licensing exam, and application of the material to real-life scenarios. Participants have six months to complete the program.
Launch of the ICCP coincides with a recruitment campaign, spearheaded by IA&B Director of Career Services Heather Ulrich. Ulrich is forging relationships with students, business educators, and guidance counselors at high schools, community colleges, and universities throughout IA&B’s three-state footprint. She also represents the industry at numerous job and career fairs.
“We’ve identified three categories of job seekers to target with our message about independent agent career opportunities,” said Ulrich. “These are people looking for a career change, recent graduates, and those looking to rejoin the workforce.”
The ICCP offers a point of entry to the insurance industry for those Ulrich recruits. The program also can help jumpstart the careers of insurance agencies’ new, unlicensed employees.
