Effective July 1, 2024, the minimum wage increased for certain employees of Montgomery County employers, as well as for Howard County government employees.

As of July 1, 2024, new earnings thresholds for the executive, administrative, and professional exemption from minimum wage and overtime protections under the FLSA are in effect.

Effective July 1, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) rescinded a 2018 rule and returned to pre-rule guidance on association health plans.

Note changes in the dates for payroll contributions for implementation of Maryland's Paid Family Leave Insurance program.

While changes to overtime eligibility under the Fair Labor Standards Act now face legal challenges, employers still should prepare for implementation by July 1 in the event the lawsuit is not successful.

This new law, which stems from Maryland House Bill 1339, takes effect Jan. 1, 2025.
